The pointed princess hats in today’s children’s costume-sets are a throwback to this fashion. Beyond just pointed cones, ladies wore both elaborate hairstyles and sculpted hats. Young, unmarried women and girls wore their hair loose as a symbol of their maidenhood, but married women kept their heads covered.
